ABOUT ME
Being of mixed Chinese and English heritage, with an upbringing that reflects the blending of these cultures, I believe that old wisdoms have so much to offer when we adapt them to suit the modern woman.
My practice blends modern, mother-focused care with traditional Chinese postpartum traditions. Chinese culture has a long tradition of wise women who come to, as we would say in Chinese, "rest moon" (allow the mother to rest for the month) with a woman who has given birth. She would be called the mother's "pui yuet" , roughly translated to "moon companion". Her duty would be to holistically look after the woman, paying attention to her nutrition, physical recovery and emotional wellbeing. Just picture an Asian aunty encouraging you to eat more, to stay in bed and keeping your feet warm.
I'm proud to continue the spirit of the “moon companion” in my care as a postpartum doula, while tailoring it to mothers so that we can make our own traditions that feel right for each individual woman. I was lucky enough to have been cared for in my postpartum period of my little girl in 2024 and know that it was transformative and incredibly healing. The postpartum period is a time we will never have again with that baby and I feel it would be a privilege and an honour to be witness and “rest moon” with mothers.
